Board Member Spotlight - Chris Waddell

Chris Waddell owns and operates Apple Shamrock Farms, LLC, a 2,000-acre farm where she and her family milk 1,000 Holstein cows and care for 875 replacement heifers. Crops grown include corn, soybeans and orchard grass. She is an eighteen-year leader of Dairy 4-H, actively promoting the dairy industry through her work with the Dairy Princess Program, and offering tours of the dairy farm to local school children routinely. We asked Chris a few questions about what inspired her to join AgChoice. Check out her answers below, and be sure to say hello at our next event!

One fun fact about your business or career:
I grew up on a small farm and had no plans to farm. I earned an accounting degree, fell in love with a farmer and changed my course.

Why did you choose to work with AgChoice for your financing needs?
We chose AgChoice because of its knowledge of our industry, willingness to work with us through thick and thin and because it is a cooperative.

Why did you decide to run for the Board of Directors?
I ran for the board because I was asked several times. With my accounting background and flexible schedule, it was a good fit for me.

How has the Cooperative changed through the years?
I believe that AgChoice has maintained its basic business policy of customer first, but has changed and progressed with technology in order to keep current and relevant to meet the needs of today’s customer.

Advice you’d share with other customer-owners considering running for the nominating committee or a board seat in the future?
It is a truly great opportunity not only to serve your cooperative but to grow as a person and bring back to your home business. The many opportunities you have while serving on the board are priceless. The people you meet and networking opportunities are endless.

AgChoice has the pleasure of working with a dynamic Board of Directors that helps to provide strategic direction and oversight. Interested in becoming more involved with AgChoice? For more information on becoming a member of the AgChoice Board of Directors, view our Board Leadership Brochure.
